Setting Yourself Up

Yesterday was a PRODUCTIVE day at the Yule household!  Janell and I got almost everything unpacked and put in its place.  🙂
Janell is very excited about the pantry.  Who am I kidding, I’m THRILLED about it, too.  ;-b
I can’t stand clutter!  The pantry in our last house was always a point of contention…  It was small and unorganized and it drove me nuts!!
Nutrition is a pretty big part of our lives so we made sure that when we designed the house we took that into consideration – that’s why we designed the kitchen and the pantry the way we did.  We even have two refrigerators side-by-side in the kitchen!!
Two fridges might seem a bit much for two people, but WOW does it keep things neat, organized, and in view. 🙂  I love it!
Really, it’s all about setting yourself up for success…
By the way, I talked about success and specifically defining it (for YOU) last week (read it here) so I won’t go into that aspect here.
Setting yourself up – especially your environment – for success is so critical!
Now, I know remodeling your kitchen isn’t a realistic approach, but there are still plenty of things you can do to set yourself up for success…
For example, Janell always tells our transformation challengers to set up a separate area/shelf in the fridge and pantry with their items and to put trigger foods (e.g., chips) that other family members want out of sight.
As she says, if it’s constantly in your line of sight you’ll eventually “cave in” and eat it…
If breakfast is a struggle for you, have all the ingredients front and center ready to mix for a protein shake in the morning or just make extra portions for dinner and eat them for breakfast.
Too busy to stop for a meal in the mid-afternoon.  No problem. Keep a nutrition bar (Rx Bars are one of our favorites) in your bag.
There are all sorts of ways you can set yourself up for success.  The key is to figure out what’s going to work best for you and then just do it…don’t just “wing it.”
