No Offense

So, yesterday I wrote an email and used the subject line “Mindf***!”
Some people took issue with that.  One even unsubscribed from my newsletter altogether!
Interestingly enough, others sent me positive comments…and even signed up for the seminar I mentioned.  🙂
Funny how you can get such opposite reactions from different people, isn’t it?
Here’s the thing…at least this is my philosophy:
Just because you’re offended doesn’t mean you’re right.
Now, that will likely offend some people.  ;-b
And, those folks will likely read no further, maybe even unsubscribe, and thus miss out on future lessons…which, by the way, the email yesterday had a HUGE lesson we all (myself included) need to understand deeply.
Now, before I even get to a “lesson” today, let me point something out that may not be so obvious to everyone…
This is a free newsletter.  And it’s MY newsletter – in many ways it’s like my diary that I open up to you…
As far as what I write about and how I choose to say it, we live in a free country  (although some say that may be up for debate) with free speech.
I’m not forcing anyone to read this.  The thousands of people on my list all have a choice each day…
I’m not forcing my beliefs on anyone – kinda like someone telling me that I’m offensive to them…which, I suppose they’re free to do. 😉
I write these newsletters first and foremost to live in my purpose:
To use my knowledge, experience & awareness
to educate, motivate & inspire
hard-working people who are willing to Have Faith & Take Action
to achieve a level of success they previously only dreamed of.
If I’m doing that for you in some small way…AWESOME!
If I’m not, then let me be the first to say, “That’s OK.  Don’t waste another minute. Click the unsubscribe link and go seek out another newsletter that’s more to your liking…or start your own.  It’s all good. :-)”
I’m happy to say that a week doesn’t go by without getting an email like this one (in reply to yesterday’s “controversial” email):
“Just a quick note to tell you how much I love your emails!  Always inspirational and thought-provoking for sure.”
It’ll be interesting to see the responses this email generates…
By the way, if you dig a newsletter or it makes an impact…please let me know.  I certainly don’t need an ego boost, but it is nice when someone shows appreciation for your hard work.  🙂
So, let’s get to that lesson…
In case the point was missed yesterday or just because it’s valuable to review (I’ve been trying to get this right for 20+ years), let’s take another look at that picture I shared yesterday:
Ever wonder why you do the things you do…even when you wish/want to do otherwise?
Have you ever had this conversation with yourself (or maybe your kid):
“Why did you do that?
“I don’t know.”
“But, you know better, right?”
“Then why did you do that?
“I don’t know.”
Sound familiar?
Well, the answer all lies beneath the surface.
The truth is we’re all just like robots carrying out a program…
Our programming dictates are behaviors/actions, which we all know controls our results…unless you subscribe to a philosophy of placing blame on other people and circumstances.
Now, here’s the good news my fellow robot…
That means WE are in control of our behaviors and actions…and ultimately our results in life.
Here’s a really powerful quote from Joel Barker, author of Paradigms:
To ignore the power of paradigms to influence your judgment is to put yourself at significant risk when exploring your future.  To be able to shape your future you have to be ready to change your paradigm.”
