I recently did a survey that produced a fascinating result…
It was one question:
Which would you rather achieve?
- Lose 15 pounds in a 6-week 15-pound Weight Loss Challenge (achieve the goal)
- Lose 18 pounds in a 6-week 20-pound Weight Loss Challenge (fall short of the goal)
As you can see from the results, 70% of those surveyed would rather lose LESS weight. Achieving the preset goal was the more important factor.
Think about that for a moment…
Logically, this makes no sense!
7 out of 10 people would rather lose LESS weight in order to achieve some arbitrary, outside marker of “success.” Yet, if it was about losing more weight then 18 pounds is clearly a greater success than 15 pounds…
Now, EMOTIONALLY…this makes perfect sense!
We let outside factors influence our idea “success” and even our self-worth all the time…
“I set out to lose 20 pounds, but I failed. So many others did, but I didn’t. Something must be wrong with me.
Sure, I haven’t lost 18 pounds in God knows how long, and I feel better than I have in 18 years. I move better, that nagging ache is gone, my clothes no longer fit, and people are complimenting me all the time about how much better I look and how much more happy and confident I am…
…until I stepped on that damn scale and realized I was a failure.”
And, now you know why Janell and I have decided to dump the 20-pound Challenge as part of our program offerings at The Transformation Club.
While we’ve seen hundreds of people lose 20+ pounds, we’ve also seen too many good people upset over “only losing 18 pounds (or whatever amount other than 20)” and feeling like a failure. Yet, these same people hadn’t lost ANY weight for months or even years prior. Plus, they finish the challenge feeling more energetic than they have in forever, and many of their aches and pains disappeared. They made an AMAZING TRANSFORMATION!
Why should these people feel like failures?
Sadly, many do, and, for that, they don’t continue their journey…and they gain all their weight back. 🙁
The truth is, any progress – whether it includes 10, 5, 1 or even 0 pounds lost – is still progress if your improving your lifestyle and doing the *proven* things that WILL ultimately create long-term results…on and off the scale.
In the end, does it really matter if it takes 6 weeks or 6 months?
Of course not!
The time is going to go by either way, right?
So, going forward, starting with our 9/17 challenge, we will be rebranding and calling it The Transformation Challenge.
That fits in nicely with The Transformation Club, The Transformation Book, and The Transformation Path. 🙂
Now, let me be clear… People will still lose 20 pounds.
But, what if you don’t?
You’re still a winner!
You still made an amazing transformation and took a positive step toward becoming the BEST version of YOU!
Isn’t that what matters the most?
Darn right! 🙂
HAVE FAITH & TAKE ACTION!
