Last week I sent out a survey and the very first question was:
When it comes to fitness/getting in shape/joining a gym, what is/was your biggest fear?
There were also a LOT of responses related to being judged.
Now, I don’t want to downplay it at all. Clearly, it’s a big fear.
However, let’s put feelings aside for a moment and look at this logically…
First, since most people fear being judged the math says that it’s unlikely that you’re actually being judged. 😉
Now, let’s say there are some people who are judging you…
Again, just examining that logically…why does it matter?
Why are we so concerned with other people’s opinions of us and why do we let those opinions dictate what we do with our lives?
Yeah, that’s a BIG question.
It’s not just about joining a gym, right?
Heck, people work in jobs they can’t stand to afford things they don’t really love just to impress people they don’t even like!
Fear of judgment is a big issue.
I’m certainly not immune to it, but I’m really working on it as well as my self-awareness…
Ask yourself these questions:
- What brings me joy and makes me happy? Am I doing them?
- What gifts and talents do I have? Am I using them?
- Who do I want to surround myself with and spend my time with? Am I?
- Ultimately, what do I want to do with this one precious life I’ve been given? How’s that going so far?
Worrying about what other people think isn’t going to serve you too well and likely cause a lot of regrets. It’s not going to allow you to be the best version of yourself…
And, ironically, you can only serve those who actually matter to you in the best way possible when YOU are at your best!
It’s an interesting way to look at the fear of judgment, isn’t it?
Now, I’m happy to throw in a little plug about The Transformation Club here because we’re constantly told that people don’t feel judged here.
On the one hand, that’s very true. There is no NEGATIVE judgment…
However, I feel that when you walk in that door for the first time you’re brave AF! After all, you have to come inside and experience us to realize that you DO fit in and you ARE welcome. That takes courage and a willingness to set your fear aside. YOU FREAKIN’ ROCK!
I suppose you could consider that a judgement, albeit a POSTIVE one. 😉
Please share this message (about judgment, not necessarily about The Transformation Club) to anyone you think could benefit from it.
